SEE Finance FAQ

1. How do I download transactions?
For information about downloading transactions into SEE Finance please check out the Downloading Transactions FAQ page.

2. Is my data secure in SEE Finance?
If you choose to use Direct Connect account downloads, you can choose to save your account login information in Apple's Keychain or not at all. There are no account numbers, login names or passwords saved in one of our files. This is the recommendation for all applications that need to save and use sensitive information, using Apple's Keychain, and is used by Apple's own applications. There are three key pieces of information needed for account downloads: account number, account login name (which is sometimes also the account number), and account login password. In our program, all three items are saved in Apple's Keychain or not all based on user choice.
You can also password protect files to prevent people from opening and viewing your file.
The only personal information found in one of our files are just the transactions themselves. Personal account information used for Direct Connect downloads including account numbers, login names and passwords are not saved in our files.

3. Does SEE Finance support Online Bill Pay?
SEE Finance does not currently support Online Bill Pay.

4. Can I transfer my data from Microsoft® Money?
Yes, just export your data from Microsoft® Money in a QIF file and import that file into a SEE Finance file using either the "Import Accounts..." option in the "Accounts" menu or you can import the data from the file into existing accounts using the "Import Transactions..." option in the "Accounts" menu. For more specific directions on transferring data from Microsoft® Money check out our Switching from Microsoft® Money Page.

5. Can I transfer my data from Quicken®?
Yes, just export your data from Quicken® in a QIF, QFX, or OFX file and import that file into a SEE Finance file using either the "Import Accounts..." option in the "Accounts" menu or you can import the data from the file into existing accounts using the "Import Transactions..." option in the "Accounts" menu. For more specific directions on transferring data from Quicken® check out our Switching from Quicken® Page.

6. Can I transfer my data from other software?
Yes, SEE Finance can import account data from QIF, QFX, OFX and CSV files. For more specific directions on transferring data from other software check out our Switching to SEE Finance Page.

7. Where is my SEE Finance data stored?
SEE Finance is a document based application meaning you can create and save as many SEE Finance data files as you wish. These data files are saved in the location of your choosing. SEE Finance will remember the last used file and will restore this file the next time the application is opened.

8. When I open SEE Finance nothing happens?
SEE Finance is a document based application (like spreadsheet programs), you'll need to create or open a document (otherwise you may just see the menu if you have not created and saved a file). The program should remember your last used file once you have one setup and open that file when you open the application (unless it was moved or deleted).

Try clicking the application's icon in the dock. If you see the "SEE Finance" menu on the top bar, select "File" and then "New SEE Finance File". Then proceed to follow the prompts to get your account(s) setup. If this does not work please try rebooting your computer and repeating these steps.

9. How can I import accounts and/or transactions?
To import accounts and/or transactions you will need to have account data in a OFX, QFX, QIF, or CSV file. OFX, QFX and QIF files can be used to import accounts into a SEE Finance file by using the "Import Accounts..." option from the "Accounts" menu. OFX, QFX, QIF, and CSV files can be used to import transactions into existing accounts by selecting an existing account and its transactions register view and then selecting the "Import Transactions..." option from the "Accounts" menu.

10. I imported transactions, but all I do not see them in the accounts. Where are they?
Most likely the proper date format was not selected for the transactions in the file during the import. For example, if the dates in the file are shown as "MM/DD/YYYY" and you select "MM/DD/YY" a date like "12/1/2008" (December 1st 2008) will get set to "12/1/20" (December 1st 2020). You can just create a new file by selecting "New SEE Finance File" from the "File" menu and start your import again making sure to select the appropriate date format for the transactions in the file.
