Updating Investment Quotes
Updating Investment Quotes is easy. You can even manually set a security's current market value and change the symbol used for quote downloads from Yahoo! Finance if it is different from the symbol used in investment transactions.
Updating Investment Quotes:
- From the Menu Bar select "Accounts" then "Update Investment Quotes".
You can setup SEE Finance to update quotes manually or automatically when you open your SEE Finance document by changing your investment preferences
Notes:
- The last available quote from the historical quotes table will be used for current market price if it is more recent. Learn how to edit & import historical investment quotes.
- CD market prices should be $1 as CDs are expected to be entered using $1 for the unit price and face value as the number of units.
- Bond market prices are expected to be percentage of par values. Bond market prices in the program can also be based on the common present value (PV) of a bond formula if the Investment Preferences for "Use PV of a Bond Formula for Bond Quotes" is turned on. In order for the PV of a bond calculation to be accurate the bond transactions must be setup with the relevant bond specific information (bond issuer type, coupon rate, coupon frequency, par value, issue date and maturity date).
Manually Updating Investment Quotes:
For securities not listed on Yahoo! Finance or ones you just wish to update their quotes manually you can follow these
instructions to manually set their current market value:
- Select the "Portfolio" listing from the main Account List.
- Select "Analysis" from the top bar of buttons.
- Then select "Security List" from the "Portfolio Analysis" bar of buttons under the top bar.
- The "Security List" shows a table of all the securities from all your open investment positions. Select the desired security you wish to manually update its value.
- Then click the "Info" button on the top bar to pull up information about the selected security.
- In this "Info" view you can set the "Last Trade", "Net Value", "Market Value" or similar option depending on the type of security you are adjusting. Then all positions using this security will have their values adjusted using this manually set market value. If the security's symbol is not listed on Yahoo! Finance and not blank it will retain this manually set value until it is changed again. You may need to set the security to not have symbol listed on Yahoo! Finance to prevent the security from using unwanted values. Setting the security's Yahoo Symbol to "NA", "N/A", "N A", "Not Applicable", "Untracked", "Unknown", or "No Symbol" will prevent the security from attempting to download quotes and being updated from manually set market values. Adding "-CQO" or "-HQO" to a security's Yahoo! Symbol will have it download current quotes only or historical quotes only respectively.
You can also change the currency the security is in and its Yahoo Symbol as needed. For bonds you can also set the CUSIP, YTM, rating and market value (rating is based off of the bond type and the bond rates in the "Analysis" "Overview" view, such as AA).
Notes:

In order for the PV of a bond calculation to be accurate the bond transactions must be setup with the relevant bond specific information (bond issuer type, coupon rate, coupon frequency, par value, issue date and maturity date). After manually setting the value for the bond's price this price may be adjusted slightly after plugging the manually set value into the PV of a bond formula. This is due to using the manually set price to estimate the bond's YTM which is then used to recalculate the PV of the bond.
Setting an Investment Security's Yahoo! Finance Symbol:
For investment transactions and securities that are listed with symbols that do not match the symbol used for the security
by Yahoo! Finance you can set the "Yahoo! Symbol" for the security by following these instructions:
- Select the "Portfolio" listing from the main Account List.
- Select "Analysis" from the top bar of buttons.
- Then select "Security List" from the "Portfolio Analysis" bar of buttons under the top bar.
- The "Security List" shows a table of all the securities from all your open investment positions. Select the desired security you wish to set its Yahoo! Finance symbol.
- Then click the "Info" button on the top bar to pull up information about the selected security.
- In this "Info" view you can set the Yahoo Symbol for the security.
Notes:
- Setting the security's Yahoo Symbol to "NA", "N/A", "N A", "Not Applicable", "Untracked", "Unknown", or "No Symbol" will prevent the security from attempting to download quotes and being updated from currently set market values.
- Adding "-CQO" or "-HQO" to a security's Yahoo! Symbol will have it download current quotes only or historical quotes only respectively.
