Investment Preferences
With SEE Finance's investment preferences you can set options for how the program handles investment accounts and positions.
Investment - General Preferences:
Investment Account Balances:
- "Show Total Market Value of Positions for Balance" - Option whether or not to list the cash plus the market value of held securities for investment accounts or just the cash balance for the investment accounts.
Updating Investment Quotes:
- "Download Investment Quotes When Starting" - Program automatically downloads investment quotes when opening the file.
- "Download Investment Quotes Manually" - User must manually select to "Update Investment Quotes" from the Accounts menu.
- "Download Quotes Only for Active Securities" - Whether or not to only download quotes for securities involved in open investment positions in investment accounts.
- "Download Historical Investment Quotes" - Whether or not to download historical investment quotes for securities.
- "Amount of Quotes to Download:" - The number of years of historical quotes to keep for securities.
- "Maximum Number of Simultaneous Connections:" - The number of investment quote download connections able to be sent by the program at one time.
- "Connection Timeout Interval:" - The timeout interval for investment quote download connections made by the program.
Investment Position Quotes:
- "Show Quotes in Account Currency" - Option to display market quotes in the selected account's currency.
- "Show Quotes in Security Native Currency" - Option to display market quotes in the security's currency.
- "Use PV of a Bond Formula for Bond Quotes" - Option to have bond market quotes based on the common present value of a bond formula. Requires bond transactions have all the bond specific information entered (maturity date and coupon information).
- "Use Underlying Security Value for Options Gain/Loss" - Option to have stock option positions use the underlying security's market price for estimating the gain/loss of the stock option.
- "Use Underlying Security Value for Historical Quotes" - Option to use the underlying security's historical quotes to estimate the stock option's historical prices.
Investment - Importing Preferences:
Importing Investment Quotes:
- "Update Security Market Prices with Market Prices Found in Account Downloads and Imported Files" - Whether or not prices found in Direct Connect downloads and imported QFX/OFX files should be used as the current market price in the program.
Importing Investment Transactions:
- "Combine Matching, But Separate Cash Dividend and Purchase Transactions into One Reinvest Dividend Transaction" - Whether or not to have the program automatically combine matching cash dividend transactions to corresponding buy transactions into one "Reinvest Dividend" transaction. Useful when institutions do not utilize the reinvest dividend transaction options available in file format protocols.
- "Automatically Delete Offsetting Cash Dividend Transactions That Correspond to a Reinvested Dividend" - Whether or not to have the program automatically delete offsetting cash dividend transactions. Useful when institutions list a reinvested dividend transaction, but also list a positive cash dividend and negative cash dividend for the same amount.
- "Transactions Listed with an Undefined Cash Source or Destination Should be Listed With Their Account as Their Category to Prevent an Effect on the Account's Cash Balance" - Whether or not to list transactions with the account they are in as their category (the account's name in brackets) to prevent any change in the account's cash balance when the institution indicates the cash involved in the transaction come from or went to an "Other" unidentified source. This type of "undefined" cash source/destination can occur with employer matched accounts.
- "Imported Option Transactions Should Use Option Details Found in Option Name" - Whether or not imported option transactions should use option details found in the option's name instead of the option details provided by the institution. Useful when institutions do not list correct option details (underlying security, expiration date, option type, and strike price).
