
Setting Up Direct Connect Account Downloads
Setting up Direct Connect account downloads is a quick and simple process. These instructions are for setting up
account downloads for already existing accounts. You can also setup account downloads when you initially
create a new account using Direct Connect downloads.
***Note: Some financial institutions require a separate user name and/or password for using Direct
Connect. Plus, some financial institutions also charge a fee to use this service. When trying to obtain
information about setting up your account(s) for Direct Connect with financial institutions it is best to
search for information about how to setup Quicken® for "Direct Connect" downloads.***
To Setup Direct Connect Account Downloads:
- Select the account you want to setup Direct Connect for from the Account List.
- From the Menu Bar select "Accounts" then "Setup Downloads...".
- Wait a moment for the list of financial institutions that offer Direct Connect to load.
- Find your financial institution by scrolling the list or using the search field under the list and click "Next".
- Wait a moment while SEE Finance connects to the institution to retrieve current information about the institution.
- Next, if successful connections have been made, you will be asked for information to setup
your account. Depending on your financial institution you may just need to enter your user name
and password to use account discovery OR you might have to enter the one or more
of the following: type of account, account number, routing number (aka bank number), ID/user name,
and PIN/password (manual setup). Also, you have the option to store your login credentials in the Apple Keychain
on your computer in order to allow quicker downloads in the future (no user account information is ever saved in
SEE Finance see note below). Be sure to check whether or not you would like to
download all available transactions or not. Then click "Next".
Note: When setting up an account for downloads the institution responds whether or not they support setting up accounts using account discovery or manually using account specific information. The method of setup is initially chosen based on this response. Occasionally there may be the need to use the other means of account setup (account discovery or manual setup). Manual setup is supported by all institutions whereas account discovery is not.
- Wait another moment while SEE Finance connects to the institution to retrieve your account information from the institution.
- If there is only one account found that matches the account information you entered then
you will be shown the "Account Downloads Setup Complete" screen showing information about your
account. If this is the case just click "Finish".
***If there were multiple accounts are found that match the information you entered you will be presented with the "Multiple Accounts Found" screen. Select the desired account from the list and click "Next". This will take you back to step #7.*** - If you didn't choose to download all available transactions you are all done. If you did
choose to download all available transactions the OFX import window will raise and show
the transactions downloaded for the selected accounts.
***Make sure to check the checkbox(es) in the Import column to import the transactions for the selected account.*** - Select the "Import" button and you're done!
Notes:
- If you receive any error screens and messages, double check the information you entered is correct and try again. If you still have trouble double check with your financial institution to verify your account(s) are setup and able to use Direct Connect for software such as Quicken® and that you have the correct login credentials to connect. You can also refer to our Direct Connect Setup FAQs Page for general troubleshooting information.
- SEE Finance was designed to use Direct Connect with hundreds of financial institutions by utilizing the built in Apple Keychain services in Mac OS X for storing user account information. No vital account information (account numbers, passwords, etc.) is stored in SEE Finance or its data files.
- If you do not elect to save your user info in Apple's Keychain you will have to enter your user name, password and account ID (account number) for each account every time you want to download transactions.
- Credit card accounts created by download may not setup your credit limit. The credit limit amount can be set in a credit card account's "Overview" view.
- Investment accounts created by download may setup "Position Adjustment" transactions in order to take the place of the transactions not available for download, but the list of positions indicates should be there. These "Position Adjustment" transactions may need additional information and/or adjustment such as setting the "Price" for the transaction to be the cost basis per share of the shares held in the account prior to date of available transactions for download.
